01 / The idea
A thought,
taking shape.
The gourd, or hulu, carries associations of good fortune in Chinese culture. This collection abstracts its familiar silhouette into a family of playful, contemporary shapes.
Rose quartz, obsidian, amazonite, enamel, jadeite, and brushed silver bring different colors and textures to the series. The material palette draws on the idea of Wuxing, the five phases, while variations in proportion give the traditional symbol a less expected character.
